The & 450 SLC & (produced from 1971 to 1980) lends itself beautifully to everyday use: pleasant and easy to drive, thanks to the power steering and three-speed automatic transmission. This model, driven by a powerful 4520 cm V8, was designed primarily for the American market, where it debuted in 1971 with the initials & 350 SL 4.5 &. In Europe it was presented in 1973 at the Geneva Motor Show under the name & 450 SL &. Despite the high displacement this V8 delivers only 225 hp DIN at 5000 rpm, but its exemplary smoothness of operation.
